Lead Specialist, Exterior Lighting Center

Exterior Center

About the Role

CEER's Lighting Centre is building iconic lighting for a new Saudi automotive brand, combining advanced optics, robust electronics, and design craft to deliver world-class exterior and interior lighting.
As Lighting Engineer, you are the end-to-end owner of a lighting commodity, from concept through design, development, simulation, tooling, DV/PV testing, SOP/launch, and including type-approval allocation and approval markings. You'll typically own one commodity at a time, rotating across front, rear, interior, and auxiliary lamps as programs evolve. You'll be accountable for timing, quality, and cost, with hands-on issue resolution on site in Riyadh and at suppliers in China.

What You'll Own

- Become the knowledge holder for a key commodity (headlamps or rearlamps), and ensure your products integrate cleanly with the vehicle's electrical and mechanical architecture.
- Work closely with Vehicle Architecture and Design to advise on the feasibility of design proposals, enabling viable concepts with class-leading aesthetics.
- Build the integrated plan, manage gateways and the critical path, run risk reviews, and drive recovery when needed. Develop commodity timing plans that support AMPCS milestone actions.
- Maintain ClickUp / open-issues lists, run daily and weekly triage, and provide concise status and go/no-go calls.
- Translate styling and brand intent into DSR/SER, ICDs, BOM, and DVP&R, keeping requirements traceable through every iteration.
- Ensure DFM, optics and photometry targets, thermal paths, sealing/venting, EMC/ESD, and tolerance stacks are sound, and plan and assess simulation before committing to tooling.
- Manage Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers, owning SOW/RFQ, design reviews and tooling kick-offs. Manage the commodity CAD package through supplier reviews to ensure a robust virtual build process.
- Track tool design and T1/T2/T3 samples, mold-flow actions, process windows, and readiness for DV/PV builds.
- Support UN/ECE, FMVSS, and GSO approvals; ensure correct type-approval allocation and e-mark / DOT / GSO markings and labels. Keep all designs compliant with relevant market legislation.
- Manage ECRs, deviations/concessions, and releases in PLM (Teamcenter/TLM), and produce supporting documentation, DFMEA, DVP, Engineering Release, Concern Resolution, and sign-off reports.
- Support prototype, non-saleable, saleable, and pre-series builds, line trials, and work instructions, then hand over to plant and Aftersales. Investigate, contain, and resolve issues as they arise.
- Track technology trends and generate system proposals for future programmes. Support Purchasing in defining commodity strategy, and provide technical assistance to TVM, Current Vehicle Engineering, Purchasing, and Production throughout the product's life.

Essential

- Strong written and spoken English AND Mandarin.
- Experienced automotive lighting engineer (OEM or Tier-1) who has run full program cycles, with hands-on ownership of at least one of: front lamps, rear lamps, or interior lighting — and willingness to rotate across commodities.
- Automotive experience in a commodity-delivery or project-management role.
- Engineering HNC/HND with extensive commodity-specific experience (an engineering degree — Optical/Lighting, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, or equivalent — is desirable).
- Working knowledge of lighting regulations and homologation, including type-approval allocation and markings (e-mark / DOT / CCC).
- Supplier leadership from early concept through tooling, DV/PV, and into production.
- Exceptional time, project, and open-issues management; able to handle large workloads in a high-pressure environment and prioritize accordingly.
- Ability to lead and work within teams, and to manage external suppliers.
- Strong engineering mindset, logical problem-solving, and good presentation and written/verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of industry tools and processes (FMEA, DVP, Six Sigma, PPAP) and PLM (Teamcenter/TLM); ClickUp; MS Project or equivalent.
- CAD in NX (NX8.5 and/or visualization software) to interrogate and develop CAD proposals.
- Proactive support of prototype builds, with the ability to analyze and validate supplier test data and develop recovery plans.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- Willingness to travel to China frequently, including periods working from China at supplier sites.

Preferred

- Experience with ADB/matrix/pixel, OLED, or laser lighting.
- Optical simulation/analysis: LucidShape, SPEOS, LightTools, or Zemax; MATLAB; awareness of thermal/CFD.
- Manufacturing know-how: injection-molded optics/housings, vacuum metallization, coatings/AR, sealing/venting.
- Familiarity with APQP/PPAP.
- Startup (0→1→N) experience.
- Arabic

Working Model & Travel

- On-site in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
- Frequent travel to China, with periods working from China at supplier sites to protect timing and resolve issues.
- Remote coordination with wider teams and labs while in China.
