Senior Specialist, Fabrication and Welding

Job Purpose

The PTS Machining Centre Senior Specialist is a hands-on technical joining specialist within the department who is responsible for the execution of activities involving prototype vehicle build, manufacture and modification of prototype parts, jigs and fixtures. The individual is responsible for providing technical direction and expertise to the department, and specialists on the processes, techniques and materials required for the manufacture of low volume prototype parts, jigs and fixtures and support prototype vehicle build whilst ensuring the output meets all engineering specifications and requirements.

 

Job Role

Key Functional Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD data.
  • Skilled in the practical operation of joining technology such as welding (CMT, MIG, TIG, spot, stud), riveting and gluing on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Skilled in the practical operation of fabrication technology such metal forming, bending, rolling, drilling, cutting and grinding.
  • Skilled in the practical operation of CNC laser cutting machine.
  • Skilled In car body repair methods.
  • Skilled in vehicle assembly/disassembly
  • Previous experience working within prototype vehicle build programmes, including Mule vehicles, Product and Process Validation (PPV) builds, and Production Trial (PT) phases
  • Previous experience working in a prototype manufacturing facility
  • Knowledge of weld testing (destructive, non-destructing, ultrasonic)
  • Support the implementation of quality management system policies in line with business requirements.
  • Support the Implementation of health and safety policies in line with business requirements
  • Support the Implementation of manufacturing processes and control plans
  • Perform reworks associated with BIW and components during prototype build events.
  • Perform assembly/sub assembly of jigs, fixtures and vehicle components.
  • Cross functional technical support across the department and test facilities.
  • Provide manufacturing feasibility and technical feedback to engineering teams.
  • Knowledge transfer and train developing talent.

 

 

 

Job Role

Key Managerial Accountabilities

  • Achieve the assigned objectives through the setting of individual objectives, managing performance, and developing and motivating staff.
  • Participate in the development of the section’s business plans according to the department objectives.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of policies, procedures and controls covering all areas of assigned activities.
  • Prepare the budget required from the section and monitor financial performance versus the budget while ensuring unit activities are conducted in line with the approved guidelines.
  • Manage the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and sustainability of systems, processes and practices considering leading standards, productivity improvement and cost reduction.
  • Ensure that all section reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet CEER’s requirements, policies, and quality standards.
  • Ensure non-disclosure of confidential information within or outside CEER.
  • Ensure adherence to the Health, Safety, Security, Environment policies and standards across all business functions under the department.

Job Requirements

Education

Bachelor`s degree / Technical Diploma

Experience

Minimum 5 years of experience working in a workshop technician based role
